Why wait?

December 7, 2011

I heard a song on the radio yesterday that made me stop and take a figurative double take. The woman was singing about being worried every time the phone rang because she was afraid it would be “the other woman” calling her husband away. She went on about how she misses him when he’s gone and doesn’t she give him what he needs. Really?! I thought “Man, she really needs to get a hold of her life and make some changes!” And then I was reminded of how when we’re in the middle of a situation, it can be challenging to remember that we always have the power to change it. We don’t have to simply wait for the other person to change in order for our situation to improve. As the Eagles so aptly put it “So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains / And we never even know we have the key”.

A lot of us have become masters at hiding our own power. It’s easier to give it away or hide it than manage it on our own but the price is so high. At the very least, it can cost us our self esteem and our happiness.

Where are you hiding your power? Are you ready to claim the key to your chains?
