It's Easier to Work with an Existing Habit...

What is your clutter habit?
...Than to Change It.

It's common to believe that once we clear a cluttered area in our home, we have to completely change our habits in order to prevent new clutter from showing back up. That's one option, but have you ever tried to change a habit?  It's not easy!  Our autopilot kicks into gear before we even realize it's happening. Your success rate will be much higher if you take a bit of time and examine what your current habits are.  What sort of clutter was in the spot you cleared?  Was it mail, work materials, kid's school stuff?  Once you know what accumulates there, figure out a way to collect it as close to the place where you already put it. For instance, if your mail ends up on your kitchen table, don't think that you have to now create a spot on the other side of the room for it. Designate a container (a nice basket or a colorful "In" bin on or near the table for it and decide to go through it once a week. Keep it simple. In most cases, a bit of tweaking can make a huge difference in keeping a space better organized.

Here is the question:

What small tweak could you make to an existing clutter habit to improve your level of organization?
