I See My Purpose in Life as...

How many times has your life been spared?
Making the World a Happier Place to Be in."   - David Niven

The other day I was reminded of the many times that I probably should have been severely injured or worse.  Odd thought, I know, but given the fact that I'm 52 years old, I supposed the statistics are good that I would have experienced at least one really close call.  It got me to thinking about what those times have taught me or how I changed my life because of them. It's sort of like when we attend a funeral.  It brings up all those thoughts about how precious life is and how we can go at any moment.  Those thoughts hit much closer to home when the close call happens to us.  We not only have the thoughts, we feel the feelings, that surge of adrenaline once we realize we're alright.

One of the meanings of the word 'spared' is:  to set aside for a particular purpose.  And that's how I feel.  I feel like I've been spared for the purpose of continuing to share my gifts and talents with the world.  I've consciously worked to get better at that.  I'm grateful for the second and third chances to do so.

Here is the question:

How many times have you been spared?  How have those times changed your life?
