Control the controlables.

February 6, 2011

Tomorrow my mom is going into the hospital to have her second knee replacement surgery. The first one went so well last year and she got so much relief from all the pain she had been in, she decided to get the other knee done. It's always a bit scary when someone goes under general anesthesia. I know doctors do this sort of thing every day but still......that's my mom. So, today I made sure that we talked on the phone and that I told her I love her, all those things people say to each other before a big event. And that's all I can control. I can't control the weather she'll have for her drive to the hospital or how the procedure will go or how much pain she'll be in when she comes to. But I can let her know I'll be thinking of her, make her a silly "Get well soon" card and go to visit her while she's healing. Worrying about what might happen won't do either one of us any good.

And now for my book update:

The Success Principles by Jack Canfiled

Chapter 15 - Experience Your Fear and Take Action Anyway
Chapter 16 - Be Willing to Pay the Price
Chapter 17 - Ask! Ask! Ask!
Chapter 18 - Reject Rejection

"In other words, acknowledge that fear exists but don't let it keep you from doing important tasks"

"It is those very things that we are most afraid to do that provide the greatest liberation and growth for us."

"If you want to remain calm and peaceful as you go through life, you have to have high intention and low attachment."

"Instead of getting upset when things don't unfold as you anticipated, always ask yourself the question 'What's the possibility that this is?'"

"Of course, if you don't know what the price is, you can't choose to pay it."

"Don't ever assume against yourself."

"You may have the capacity, but you also have to have the tenacity!"

"Asking is, was, and always will be a numbers game. Don't take it personally, because it isn't personal. It's just not a match until it is."
